This was reported a while ago but I overlooked it for some odd reason. Del Rey has signed an agreement with Nickelodeon to produce a manga book for both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Last Airbender.
“We’re excited to partner with Del Rey on these upcoming manga releases,” said Paula Allen, SVP of Nickelodeon Global Publishing. “Recreating and adapting the layered storylines and incredible, animated martial arts of the Avatar series and upcoming feature film in the manga style will allow fans to experience their favorite moment from the show over and over again.”
These will be an original black-and-white manga book, both of which will be written by Dave Roman whilst illustrated by Nina Matsumoto. The movie adaptation manga book will be illustrated by Joon Choi. The manga based on the series will be a prequel. This means it will be set some time in the past. This could clear up a lot of speculation as to how the world was before the war, how it all came to action or may be something beyond that. I can just speculate at this point. There aren't any release dates at the moment, but it'll probably be released some time early 2010 while the movie adaptation may be released some time before the movie. I'll keep you all posted as the information becomes available.

Thinking of attending this years San Diego Comic Con? Well, you'd be glad to know that Mike and Bryan (co-creators of the series) will be attending to take photos and sign autographs for the loyal fans of the series. They're also filming a documentary which possibly reflects on The Last Airbender adaptation and what the series has meant to the fans. The news was officially broken out by Avatar Spirit so the full credit for this news goes to them.
"We will be filming a documentary on the making of the television series, and we'll be taping our interactions with people while they get their new ATLA SDCC '09 posters signed (which I am drawing right now!). The producers of the documentary will be pulling certain people who make a great impression aside to film "testimonials" about what the series has meant to each of them."
The Avatar panel is currently scheduled for Saturday 25th July, between 4pm - 6pm. To check out the full article on Avatar Spirit, CLICK HERE
